Mid-Year Reading Report

Well guys, I did my Goodreads Challenge for the year in just six months!

Honestly, I would’ve finished earlier, but I had a major reading slump in April and May.  It was a bit upsetting to not feel like reading, but I was also finishing school in April and was just drained after that.  I guess that’s a good reason.

Because of the craziness of school and everything afterward, I haven’t been keeping up with book reviews.  But, that’s okay.  I’ll admit I kind of feel weird writing long-ish reviews on books now that I’m also a published author – like I’m judging those who have been in the game way before me.  I know that’s not what I’m doing, but that’s how it feels.  So, if anything, I just write what I liked most or disliked about the quick in a sentence or two.

So, the books I’ve read so far this year… let’s take a look, shall we?

Out of these books, 24 were re-reads, so just about half of them.  Obviously, the four Harry Potter books were a few of them to pull me out of my reading slump… then the other books that I reread were Time Bomb, Aliens From Arapholanx (a new edition of the book), my book Standing By, The Future of Us, Flipped, I Work at a Public Library, and the fourteen Private novels.  Yes, that’s a lot of rereading, but most of them I hadn’t read in years.

In fact, I’ve reread so many books this year that I’ve considered calling 2019, “The Year of the Reread.”

Out of all the books I’ve read this year, the ones I’ve enjoyed the most have been:

  • Harry Potter (duh)
  • Standing By (again, duh… I missed my children)
  • Time Bomb
  • The Silence of Six
  • Royals
  • Love Scene, Take Two
  • Two Can Keep a Secret
  • The Super-villain and Me
  • the Private novels

Most of the other books I enjoyed as well, but the above were all five-star reads for me (well, Private novels as a whole are five stars, not each individual book).  I don’t think I’ll read another fifty books by the end of the year, but I am upping my Goodreads Challenge a bit to see just how many I can actually read.

Well, I’m not sure how much I’ll read this month because I’m participating in Camp NaNoWriMo to get a start on my next book.  I think having some accountability will get me back on the writing groove.  I doubt I’ll write a 50,000 word book in a month, but a start is a start, right?

Anyway, good luck to those still working on their Goodreads Challenges and to all the writers out there who are also participating in Camp this month!
